W= PdV= Area ABCD in the diagram of the indicator. Hence, the area under the curve represents the work done in an indicator diagram (Fig.). When a gas undergoes constant temperature expansion or compression the process is called isothermal process. For an isothermal process the equation is PV= constant.. Hence, the area under the curve represents the work done in an indicator diagram (Fig.).
